Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release


WALDORF, Md. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs returned home to the friendly confines of Regency Furniture Stadium after their season-long 11 game road trip. The Blue Crabs squared off against the York Revolution for a season-high 17th time Tuesday night. The Blue Crabs sent left-handed pitcher, Wade Korpi to the mound looking to get home stand started on the right foot. The Revolution countered with a righty in Pedro Liriano looking to get the Revolution back to their winning ways. For a fourth straight game, the Blue Crabs went into the ninth inning all tied up but the Revolution were able to rally for two runs in the ninth to earn the 6-4 victory.

The Revolution struck first in the contest as they tallied three runs in the top of third thanks to four hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch. The Revolution weren't done however as they struck again in the top of the fourth. Shortstop Kody Kirkland leadoff the inning with a single to left and with one out, Andres Perez hit a double to the leftfield wall to score Kirkland, giving the Revs a 4-0 lead.

The Blue Crabs would answer back right away erupting for two runs in the fourth and the fifth. In the bottom of the fourth, Alvin Colina singled to right to get things started then Wladimir Sutil crushed his ninth homerun of the season to cut the Revs lead in half. In the fifth, the Blue Crabs got back to work again, this time SS Renny Osuna got things going with an infield single to third. After stealing second and third, Osuna would score on an RBI groundout by Jose Julio-Ruiz. The Blue Crabs weren't done however as after Cesar Nicolas singled and Cole Garner reached on a Revolution error, Alvin Colina singled to right, scoring Nicolas from second.

The two teams headed to the ninth still tied at four when the Revolution were able to strike for two runs. After loading the bases to start the inning, Jim Ed Warden induced a 5-2-3 double play to get the first two outs in the inning. With runners still on second and third, Revs centerfield, Ruddy Yan, hit a bases clearing double to left to give the Revolution the 6-4 lead. In the bottom half, York closer, Michael Wuertz would close it out to seal the win for the Revolution.
