Residency win and draw final home matches of 2016, prepare for Winter Showcase Nov 21st 2016, 19:27
Whitecaps FC Residency teams took to the pitch for their final home matches of 2016 on Saturday, taking on Crossfire Premier at SFU.
U-18
The U-18s got back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory against their cross-border rivals.
Theor Bair opened with a low hard volley inside the near post, followed by centre back Brendan Skinner heading in a corner kick, and Georges Mukumbilwa adding one more before halftime on a delfected volley. Noah Verhoeven finished things off in the second half with clever combination play at the top of the box and a well-placed finish.
"That was a good team performance against a traditionally tough opponent," U-18 head coach Rich Fagan told whitecapsfc.com. "Crossfire can make life uncomfortable for any team, so I was extremely happy with the team's attitude."
Lineup vs. Crossfire Premier
Aidan Aylward; Nicolas Apostol, Brendan Skinner, Joel Harrison, Christopher Guerreiro (Liam Robinson 70'); Nicholas Fussell (Andres Charles-Barrera 45'), Patrick Metcalfe, Victory Shumbusho (Noah Verhoeven 45'); Georges Mukumbilwa (Connor Glennon 75'), Theo Bair (Alan Camacho 75'), Terran Campbell
U-16
The U-16s faced a frustrating day against Crossfire, but persevered to earn a 1-1 draw.
After being down a goal early in the second half, the 'Caps kept pushing for an equalizer as Anthony Caceres eventually found a late leveler.
"It was a disappointing result, but I said to the guys to take some positives," U-16 head coach Adam Day told whitecapsfc.com after the match. "We kept going until the end and very much deserved the equalizer. The boys had a tough week with three matches, but we committed to the performance and certainly finished stronger. This will put us in good stead for the trip to Florida."
