LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Eight days before baseball is set to begin in Lakewood, the Lakewood BlueClaws announced today that there are no more reserve tickets available for Opening Night. The BlueClaws will open the 2007 season by hosting the Greensboro Grasshoppers at 6:35 p.m. next Thursday, April 5th. The pre-game festivities will include a Championship Banner Raising, in honor of the 2006 South Atlantic League Champion BlueClaws, a first-of-its-kind event at FirstEnergy Park.
"We've been looking forward to Opening Night and the Championship Banner Raising since September," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "The fact that we've sold all of our reserve seats more than a week before the game says that our fans feel the same way we do."
Fans who don't yet have their Opening Night tickets can still obtain entrance to this historic game. There are 148 table-top seats available as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, and there is also General Admission seating in the Sod Squad.
In addition to witnessing the Championship Banner Raising, the first 5,000 fans on Opening Night will receive Magnetic Schedules courtesy of Pine Belt Chevrolet of Lakewood and Freehold. There will also be a flyover by the 108th Air Refueling Wing out of McGuire Air Force Base under the command of Colonel Michael Cunniffe.
The BlueClaws will host an Open Practice two days before the opener, Tuesday, April 3rd for fans to get an early glimpse of the 2007 BlueClaws. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the practice to follow at 6. Admission is free, and BlueClaws staff members will also be receiving their Championship rings before the practice. The players were honored in a March 15th ceremony in Clearwater, FL.
The BlueClaws have led the league in attendance in each year of existence, adding 448,310 fans in 2006. This season, the BlueClaws will become the fastest team in South Atlantic League and New Jersey baseball history to reach the 3 million fan attendance mark.
