Republic FC Launches Hispanic Heritage Merchandise Collection

From September 15 to October FC, Republic FC will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the rich and vibrant Hispanic and Latinx cultures in Sacramento through storytelling, community initiatives, and more.

And what better way to kickoff this exciting month than by adding a new Hispanic and Latinx-inspired merchandise collection to the team store.

We caught up with Republic FC Senior Creative Manager Sara Molina, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into designing a merchandise line.

SHOP THE HISPANIC HERITAGE LINE

El Chico / La Chica Sugar Skulls

A Día de los Muertos-inspired skull is a staple in any Hispanic Heritage line. Molina put her own, youthful spin on the classic design by giving us two versions - El Chico, which features an SRFC hat, and La Chica, which dons a fun bun-like hairstyle. For both, the eyes, which are typically made out to be flowers or solid black, have been redesigned as soccer balls. The skulls are featured on several items throughout the collection: decals, El Chico Dad Cap, and El Chico / La Chica Tees.

Lotería Tee

For this piece, Molina turned to local artist Marco Estrada, who originally created a Lotería poster for Republic FC's 2019 Noche Latina match. His artwork is also on display at the Carrillo Futsal Courts, which were refurbished by the Indomitable Club in October 2020.

On his inspiration for the design, Estrada said that he wanted to modify the traditional Lotería template to give it the flair and energy of Republic FC matches. Fan's can also pick up a free of Estrada's Lotería design at Saturday's match.

Fiesta de Gol Scarf

And no collection is complete without a scarf! Molina's serape-inspired design features the El Chico sugar skull and a SRFC-style bear, along with colorful flowers. On the back, big bright letters spell out ¡GOOOOOOOL!, the famous call used by Spanish broadcasters.

Molina says that she had a lot of fun creating the festive design: "We did a serape-scarf a few years ago that sold out quickly, so I wanted to build on that this year. We added bright colors and a lot of fun elements to make this a one-of-a-kind item for Republic FC fans." As for the scarf's name, Molina explains "It had to be Fiesta de Gol, because it's always a party when we score."
