Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC announced the club has acquired 17-year-old forward Patrick Weah (way-uh) for the remainder of the 2021 season on loan from MLS-side Minnesota United FC, pending federation and league approval.
"Patrick is an exciting young talent that adds a different element to our attack," said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant. "We look forward to welcoming him to the squad as we head down the final stretch of the season."
Weah, a Minneapolis, MN native, is the second MLS Homegrown signing for Minnesota United FC. After signing his first pro contract last march, Patrick has been selected for nine game day rosters, appearing twice. In July, Minnesota United announced that Weah would join Real Betis of Spain's La Liga for a first team training stint.
Before joining MNUFC's first team, Weah was a feature player for the Loons academy, a standout player at Wayzata High School (Plymouth, MN), and a significant signing for Saint Louis University.
During his brief collegiate career, Patrick appeared in three matches, starting two and scoring in his debut for the Billikens. In his freshman and sophomore years in high school, he led his team in goals and assists en route to back-to-back state championship appearances, claiming the trophy in 2017. Before joining the academy, Weah was named 2017-18 Minnesota State Player of the Year, 2016 All-State and All-State Tournament Team, and 2016 All-Conference.
Weah will be available for selection this Saturday, when the Republic FC take on San Antonio FC at Heart Health Park for the club's Hispanic and Latinx celebration, Noche Latina, Powered by SMUD.
