Reno Splits DH with Chico

GAME 1

In game one of Saturdays double header, The Reno Silver Sox came up with the winning combination of pitching and offense to defeat The Chico Outlaws 10-5.

The Silver Sox missed a chance to score in the first inning, as they stranded a pair of runners, but Reno's bats did not stay quiet for long.

C Adam Geery put the Silver on the board with a two run double in the second inning to make it 2-0 Reno. The next batter was CF Gary Harris, and he knocked in Geery increase the Silver Sox advantage to 3-0. Shortly after, RF Juan Senreiso hit a ball of the left field fence to score two more runs, and the Silver Sox had opened up a 5-0 lead. The Sox continued to rally as 3B John Hattig promptly doubled in a pair of runs right after Senreiso did so.

Reno added to its lead in the third inning when 1B Ryan Brown singled in a run, and then Senreiso knocked in another.

Silver Sox starting pitcher Derrick Landavazo pitched extremely well against his old team, holding the Outlaws scoreless until the final inning of game one of the double header. The Outlaws broke through when LF Gabe Riley doubled in a run DH Todd Gossage also knocked one in on a fielders choice, and CF Steve Boggs hit a three run home run. Despite the late rally by the Outlaws, Landavazo emerged victorious and improved his record to 3-1 on the year with the victory.

GAME 2

Game two of the Saturday double header started off nicely for the Silver Sox when 1B Ryan Brown homered put the Silver Sox on the score board 1-0 in the bottom of the second. Unfortunately for the Silver Sox, they would not score for the next four innings.

The Outlaws got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when 1B Julian Benavidez hit a two run home run over the left field wall to give Chico a 2-1 lead. There would be no more scoring until the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, The Sox rallied to tie the game when RF Juan Senreiso doubled in the tying run. Reno was unable to score the go ahead run

In the top of the ninth (Extra innings in a GBLdouble header) RF Lino Garcia hit a solo home run to give Chico the lead. Two batters later, C Matt Ceriani knocked in another run to make it 4-2 in favor of Chico.

Starting pitcher Steve Russell pitched only the first two innings of the game before being relieved by Andrew Alvarado who pitched four innings allowing two runs. Scott Schneider pitched the remaining frames.

Chico starting pitcher Eric Sheridan pitched all nine innings of this extra inning affair for the Outlaws, allowing two runs in the win.

The Silver Sox will be in Yuma this week but will return Friday, August 15 to take on the St. George Roadrunners in a three game, two day series. You can always purchase tickets at silversoxbaseball.com.
