Chico Outlaws News Release

RENO, NV - The Chico Outlaws and Reno Silver Sox completed a 16 day stretch where they played each other 16 times with a doubleheader split Saturday at Peccole Park on the University of Nevada, Reno campus...the Silver Sox winning the opener 10-5; the Outlaws needing extra innings to post a 4-2 victory in the nightcap and salvage the finale of the three-game series.

Reno used a huge 2nd inning to rock Outlaws starting pitcher Scott Navarro and seize early control of game one - Adam Geery's two-run double opened the scoring...Gary Harris then singled Geery home...Juan Senreiso delivered a bases-loaded single to plate a pair...and John Hattig followed with a two-run double to put the Silver Sox up 7-0. It was more of the same in the 3rd, as a two-out RBI single by Ryan Brown and a run-scoring double by Senreiso made it 9-0. In the 6th Senreiso struck again, bombing a solo homer to left off Chico reliever Todd Gelatka to push the Reno lead to ten. Silver Sox starter (and former Outlaw) Derrick Landavazo went into the 7th inning trying for a complete game shutout, but the Outlaws offense finally woke up and plated five runs to make the score look respectable - Gabe Riley doubled home Julian Benavidez and scored on an Eric Pringle groundout; Steve Boggs capped the inning with his first homer of the year, a three-run shot to left. But it was far too little and far too late as Reno reliever Doug Sanders got Jesse Kovacs to fly out to end it and secure the 10-5 victory. Landavazo (3-1) picked up the win, with Navarro (2-4) suffering the loss.

Game two of the doubleheader was a low-scoring affair but was highlighted by three home runs. Brown gave Reno a 1-0 lead in the 2nd with a solo homer off Chico starter Eric Sheridan...but in the 4th the Outlaws went ahead on a two-out, two run bomb to dead center by Benavidez. Sheridan kept the Silver Sox offense in check, and Chico's 2-1 lead held up until the bottom of the 7th when back-to-back doubles by Hattig and Senreiso tied the game and sent the contest into extra innings. In the 9th the Outlaws went back on top when Lino Garcia connected for a two-out solo homer off Reno reliever Scott Schneider...Todd Gossage followed with a single to center, stole second and scored on a Matt Ceriani single to make the score 4-2. Reno rallied in the bottom of the 9th, loading the bases with two outs...but Sheridan dashed the Silver Sox comeback hopes by getting Harris to fly out to left to end the game and give Chico the doubleheader split. Sheridan (3-1) tossed his first-ever complete game in picking up the victory...Schneider (2-3) was tagged for the loss.

Saturday's doubleheader split improved the Outlaws second half record to 10-16 and overall mark to 25-43...the Silver Sox ended the day with a second half record of 9-15 and 27-41 for the season. Chico will take Sunday and Monday off before resuming play Tuesday, opening up a six-game homestand with the first of three against the St. George Roadrunners...right-hander Greg Bicknell (4-3) is slated to start for the Outlaws in the series opener. Game time is 7:05pm... hear all the action with Rory Miller calling the play-by-play on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM and AM 1340; the game can also be heard on-line at www.ChicoOutlawsBaseball.com.
