Reno Bighorns News Release
RENO, Nev.- Salim Stoudamire unleashed his best offensive performance of the season Saturday night, pouring in 25 points to lift the Reno Bighorns to a 109-106 victory over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the Reno Events Center.
The win finished-off a weekend sweep for Reno (22-12) over Fort Wayne (14-19), and pushed the Bighorns to 15-3 on the season at home.
Despite playing without leading scorer Marcus Landry, who was sidelined with an ankle injury on Friday, Jeremy Lin, who recently was recalled by the Golden State Warriors, and Steve Novak, who recently was signed by the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, Reno came together to win its seventh-straight game.
"I couldn't be more proud of the team," said Bighorns Head Coach Eric Musselman. "Obviously the guy who really stepped up and was unbelievable tonight was Salim Stoudamire."
Stoudamire buried 5-of-6 tries from beyond the arc and finished with a season-high and game-high 25 points. The guard out of Arizona added three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
"We put the ball in Salim's hands in crunch time," Musselman said. "And he made big shots for us off pick and rolls."
Danny Green scored 24 for Reno, and Anthony Richardson added 16 for a Bighorns squad that shot 51.3 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from three-point range.
The Bighorns led by seven after one, but Fort Wayne came charging back to take a two-point lead at the break. The game see-sawed back-and-forth for parts of the second half, and the Mad Ants trailed by just one with 2.1 seconds remaining in the game. Green would seal it for Reno, though, knocking down a pair of free throws with 1.2 seconds left on the clock to push the Bighorns to the victory.
Walker Russell led six Mad Ants in double figures with 20 points and a game-high 15 assists. Corey Allmond hit 5-of-8 tries from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points, and Chris Kramer finished with 10 points, six boards, four assists and four steals.
The Bighorns now go on a 12-day hiatus before returning to action on Feb. 25 at Utah. Reno returns to the friendly confines of the Reno Events Center on Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased by calling (775) 284-2622 or visiting ticketmaster.com or the Silver Legacy box office.
