Reno Bighorns News Release
RENO, NEV.- The Reno Bighorns, affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks, have announced the acquisition of center Chris Ayer from the Dakota Wizards in exchange for a third round pick in the 2012-2013 D-League Draft.
Ayer played 20 games for the Wizards last season, averaging 12 points and 5 rebounds per game. A Loyola Maramount graduate, Ayer will also suit up for the Great Britain Men's Basketball team at the 2012 Olympics in London. Bighorns head coach Paul Mokeski will be an assistant coach for that team.
"I am very excited to be back in the NBA D-League," said Ayer. "Paul Mokeski is a great coach. I am happy to play for him and I am excited to make a run for the D-League Championship."
Fans can learn more about the Reno Bighorns roster at their 2011 NBA D-League Draft Party on Thursday, November 3 at Sully's Sports Bar & Grill inside the Tamarack Junction located at 13101 S. Virginia St., in Reno. The draft will begin at 4 p.m., with free throw and three point contests starting at 3:30 p.m.
The Draft Party will allow fans to meet new Bighorns' head coach Paul Mokeski, the Reno Bighorns Dance Team, hang out with Bruno and be part of the excitement of selecting the 2011-2012 Reno Bighorns. Enjoy food and drink specials with chances to win season tickets, Fan Experience Packages and Bighorns gear.
The free throw and three point contests will be split up into age groups of 13-years-of-age and younger and 14-years-of-age and older, with no limit on the age of the participants. The cost will be two dollars with all proceeds benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada. The top three contestants from each age group will get a chance to win Reno Bighorns season tickets if they can beat former University of Nevada, Reno basketball star and Harlem Globetrotter Eathan O'Bryant.
The Reno Bighorns were chosen to have the 13th pick in the D-League Draft, but their first overall selection will be 20th pick due to a trade with the Bakersfield Jam last season. The draft will utilize the "serpentine" style selection process.
The Bighorns tip off their regular season on the road on Friday, Nov. 25, when the team visits the Bakersfield Jam, affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors. The team will return to Reno to host its first home game of the season against the Jam at the Reno Events Center on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
Season and group tickets are on sale today. Fans can get more information by calling (775) 284-2NBA or by visiting RenoBighorns.com.
