Reno Bighorns News Release

RENO, NEV.- The Reno Bighorns, affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks, have acquired Blake Ahearn in a trade that sends Donald Sloan to the Erie BayHawks.

The four player deal sent Sloan and Joseph Kennerly III (108th overall pick in 2011 NBA D-League Draft) to Erie in exchange for Ahearn and Taj McCullough (28th overall pick in 2011 NBA D-League Draft).

"We are excited to have Ahearn with the Bighorns," said Head Coach Paul Mokeski "He is a veteran point guard who has played at the highest level. He will be a very important part of our team."

Ahearn and Sloan played together on the USA Men's Basketball Team during the Pan Am games, where they received a bronze medal. In a five game span, Ahearn averaged 10 points while Sloan finished with 8 points per game.

"We hated to lose Sloan, a very talented prospect," said Mokeski. "At the end of the day, we saw a way to make our team better and get three potential starters in the first two rounds of the D-League Draft."

During the 2010-2011 NBA D-League season, Ahearn averaged 16 points and 5 assists per game playing for the BayHawks. Sloan averaged 10 points and 4 assists for the Bighorns. The Bighorns defeated the BayHawks in the first round of the playoffs.

McCullough comes to the Bighorns with 44 games of previous NBA D-League experience, when he averaged 15 points and 4 rebounds per game during the 2008-2009 season, playing for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

The Bighorns tip off their regular season on the road on Friday, Nov. 25, when the team visits the Bakersfield Jam, affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors. The team will return to Reno to host its first home game of the season against the Jam at the Reno Events Center on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.

Season and group tickets are on sale today. Fans can get more information by calling (775) 284-2NBA or by visiting RenoBighorns.com.
