Renegades Win Over Cyclones

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades scored seven unanswered runs in a come-from-behind 7-4 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones, jumping back into first place on Tuesday night at Maimonides Park.

Brooklyn struck first in the bottom of the third against Hudson Valley starter Yoendrys Gómez. William Lugo banged an RBI single and Jose Peroza drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Cyclones a 2-0 lead.

Gómez lasted three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking three and striking out two.

The Cyclones added two more in the bottom of the fourth against Shawn Semple. Joe Suozzi walked, stole second, and came around to score on a Shervyen Newton groundout. The following batter, Matt Rudick, reached on an error, allowing Matt O'Neill to score to extend the edge to 4-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Renegades plated five two-out runs off Brooklyn starter Dominic Hamel (4-1) to storm back and take the lead. Grant Richardson and Ben Cowles laced two-run singles and Carlos Narvaez roped a go-ahead RBI double to put Hudson Valley in front 5-4. Hudson Valley sent nine batters to the plate in the decisive frame.

Semple (3-0) settled down to preserve the lead for the Gades, tossing 3.2 innings, surrendering just the two runs (one earned) on three hits, walking two and fanning five.

Hudson Valley scored two insurance runs against Dylan Hall in the top of the eighth. Jasson Domínguez bounced an RBI groundout to second, scoring Eduardo Torrealba from third, and T.J. Rumfield drilled an RBI single to lengthen the lead to 7-4. Rumfield reached base four times in a 2-for-3 effort, including two singles and two walks.

Nelvin Correa earned his fourth save, firing 2.1 scoreless innings to secure the win.

Hudson Valley continues its six-game series with the Brooklyn Cyclones on Wednesday night at Maimonides Park. RHP Juan Carela (1-0, 7.11) takes the ball for the Renegades, while the Cyclones send RHP Jeffrey Colon (0-0, 0.00) to the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45.
