Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Brooklyn, N.Y. - Three Hudson Valley Renegades pitchers combined for a one-hitter on Wednesday night in a 7-1 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones at Maimonides Park. It was the second one-hitter thrown by the Renegades on Coney Island this season, and the third overall thrown in 2023.

The Renegades struck early with two runs in the top of the first against Jordany Ventura (3-1). Spencer Jones singled, and Anthony Hall walked to set the table for Jared Serna, who hit a bouncing ball up the middle that was booted by Brooklyn second baseman D'Andre Smith for an error, scoring Jones. Two batters later Alexander Vargas singled through the right side of the infield to score Hall and give Hudson Valley a 2-0 advantage.

Hudson Valley tacked on two more in the top of the fifth on a two-run double by Anthony Hall to open the lead up to 4-0. Hall finished 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two walks and a run scored.

Making his High-A debut, Justin Lange (1-0) was terrific, holding the Cyclones without a hit until the top of the sixth when Jett Williams broke up his no-hit bid with a single to right field. He threw 5.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, walking one, and striking out eight in an impressive performance.

In the top of the seventh, Jones walked and stole both second and third base against Bailey Reid. After Hall walked, Reid threw wildly on a pickoff attempt at first, and the ball sailed out of play to score Jones to grow the lead to 5-0. With his two steals, Jones is up to 32 on the season.

In the eighth, Cowles and Christopher Familia each walked to begin the frame against Sammy Tavarez. Jones then slashed a two-run double down the left field line to extend the 'Gades lead to 7-0.

Brooklyn broke through on the scoreboard in the eighth inning. Harrison Cohen started the frame and walked D'Andre Smith who stole second base. After Drake Osborn struck out, Cole Ayers entered and threw two wild pitches to score Smith and cut the Renegades lead to 7-1.

Ayers went on to strike out two and walk just one in 1.2 scoreless innings to preserve the win for Hudson Valley.

Ben Cowles finished 0-1 with three walks and a run scored to extend his on-base streak to 30 consecutive games.

Hudson Valley and Brooklyn continue their series on Wednesday night at Maimonides Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45. The Renegades send LHP Brock Selvidge (2-0, 2.66) to the mound, while the Cyclones counter with RHP Jawilme Ramirez (1-1, 2.57).

Renegades Record: 61-49, 22-22
