Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (Aug. 13, 2023) - The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped two contests to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Sunday afternoon at Heritage Financial Park. Hudson Valley began the day resuming its suspended contest from Saturday night in the bottom of the fourth and ultimately fell 12-10. In a seven-inning contest that followed, the BlueClaws downed the Renegades 6-1.
After play resumed in the bottom of the fourth inning with Hudson Valley leading Jersey Shore 6-4, the BlueClaws took their first lead of the contest in the top of the fifth with back-to-back home runs from Marcus Lee Sang and Gabriel Rincones off Harrison Cohen to give Jersey Shore a 7-6 advantage.
Rafael Flores tied the game at seven with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame before Jersey Shore again surged forward with a three-run seventh. The first three BlueClaws reached against Harrison Cohen to load the bases for Rixon Wingrove who worked a bases-loaded walk against Clay Aguilar to drive in the go-ahead run. Caleb Ricketts and Otto Kemp plated the other two runs of the frame.
Hudson Valley again tied the game at 10-10 with a three-run eighth. Spencer Jones singled to begin the inning before Ben Cowles walked two batters later to bring up Christopher Familia, who clobbered a game-tying blast to right field to tie the game.
Aguilar (3-3) issued a leadoff single to Rincones in the ninth before Cole Ayers entered. Kemp singled Rincones home later to take an 11-10 BlueClaws lead. Leandro Pineda doubled in Kemp to cap off the game's scoring at 12-10. Rodolfo Sanchez (2-2) retired the 'Gades in order in the ninth to secure a Jersey Shore series victory.
In game two, Jersey Shore plated two runs in the top of the first against Brendan Beck (0-1). Lee Sang doubled and Rincones singled to begin the contest. During the at-bat of Kendall Simmons, Rincones stole second base and Antonio Gómez's throw sailed into centerfield to allow Lee Sang to score from third base. Simmons then hit a triple off the wall in left field to give Jersey Shore a 2-0 advantage.
Hudson Valley clawed back with a run in the fourth inning against Rafael Marcano. After Alexander Vargas doubled down the left field line, Ben Cowles walked two batters later to bring up Rafael Flores who singled home Vargas to cut the Jersey Shore lead to 2-1.
In the top of the seventh, the BlueClaws tacked on some insurance with a four-run inning against Shane Gray that was highlighted by a three-run home run by Rincones to take a 6-1 lead. Jared Serna collected a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh, but the Renegades couldn't mount a rally and fell.
With a walk in the fourth inning in game two, Cowles extended his on-base streak to 28 games. Out of the bullpen, Luis Velasquez tossed 2.2 scoreless frames in the second game to extend his scoreless streak to 13.2 innings over his last six-plus appearances. After an off day on Monday, the Renegades will travel to Maimonides Park to open up a six-game series against the Brooklyn Cyclones on Tuesday. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m.
