Winston-Salem Dash News Release

ROME, GA - Behind a four-run fifth inning, the Winston-Salem Dash took the series finale against the Rome Braves, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at AdventHealth Stadium.

Winston-Salem (48-55) struck early, plating a run in the top of the first inning. Following a two-out single, Shawn Goosenberg picked up his 41st RBI on the season on a single giving the Dash a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, Mason Adams worked a shutdown inning and the Dash held the lead until the third. Rome (50-58) knotted the game up in the bottom of the third on a single, making it 1-1.

After the third, Adams made quick work of the Braves in the fourth and Winston-Salem took the lead for good in the fifth.

Following a pair of singles with one out in the fifth, Bryce Willits pushed the Dash in front, 2-1, on a fielder's choice. After a walk, Michael Turner drove in a run on a single, pushing the lead to two, 3-1. The Dash tacked on two more runs in the fifth on a groundout and error, and Adams had a four-run cushion to work with, leading 5-1.

Adams, making his High-A debut, sat down the Braves in order in the fifth, but Rome got a run back in the sixth on a solo homer. The Okeechobee, Florida native departed after six innings, leaving a three-run advantage, 5-2, for the bullpen.

With the lead, the Dash wanted insurance in the seventh. Winston-Salem loaded the bases with no outs, and Colby Smelley was plunked bringing home a run, making it 6-2. Another run came home to score on a sacrifice fly and the Dash bullpen had a five-run lead to preserve, 7-2.

Winston-Salem escaped a bases loaded jam in the seventh, and in the eighth inning, Hunter Dollander worked a clean frame sending it to the ninth with Winston-Salem leading, 7-2.

In the ninth, manager Guillermo Quiroz turned the ball over to Jordan Mikel. The Illinois native made quick work of Rome, finishing off the 7-2 win.

Goosenberg picked up three hits on the day, while Smelley recorded a multi-RBI performance on the way to the victory.

The Dash return home on Tuesday evening with the Greenville Drive, the High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in town. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Truist Stadium.
