Renegades Defeat Muckdogs in 10

FISHKILL, N.Y. (July 14, 2009) - The Hudson Valley Renegades (13-11) defeated the Batavia Muckdogs (12-13) in a thrilling extra innings win by the score of 4-3. The Renegades win is their third extra innings win in as many days and their eighth win in the past nine games.

Renegades starting pitcher, Alexander Colome (1-1, 2.25), entered the game having only allowed two hits over his past two starts. The Muckdogs were able to engineer a run in the first, but were shutout by Colome over the next three innings. Colome displayed electric stuff, with a fastball topping out at 97 MPH.

Hudson Valley rallied in the 3rd, when fan favorite Burt Reynolds lined a single to left field with two outs and no runners on. With Brett Nommensen at the plate, Reynolds broke for second, and then advanced safely to third when the catcher's throw flew wide of the bag. Batavia's starter Scott Schneider walked the bases loaded when Eli Sonoqui (.290-2-11) came to the plate. On a 1-1 count, Sonoqui dunked a single to left field, driving in Reynolds and Nommensen, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Renegades.

The Muckdogs tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh, and the Renegades faced a 3-2 deficit entering the bottom of the 9th. On a 2-2 count with one out, centerfielder Chris Murrill slapped the pitch down the third base line. He got on his horse and sped into third with a stand-up triple. After a conference on the mound, Batavia called on sidearm righty Joseph Kelly to secure the final two outs in the 9th. A strikeout of Burt Reynolds put the game in the hands of the young star outfielder Brett Nommensen. On the 5th pitch of the at-bat, Joseph Kelly bounced a ball past Batavia's catcher, and Chris Murrill sped home from third. With that run, the Renegades were able to even the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, and send the game into extra innings.

To lead off the bottom of the tenth, Mark Thomas (.258-0-6) hit a line drive that was unplayable by Batavia's shortstop, and he advanced safely to first. Dustin Biell replaced Thomas as a pinch-runner, and took off on a sac bunt by power-hitting first baseman Eli Sonoqui. Biell overran second, but was able to beat the throw to third by Batavia's first baseman. With Biell on third base, Mayo Acosta (.262-1-5) tapped the ball over the outstretched hand of Batavia's leaping shortstop. Biell raced home and the Renegades celebrated their first walk off victory of the season.

18-year-old Jason McEachern (0-0, 6.75) starts for the Renegades on Wednesday in the second game of the three-game series against Batavia and righty Deryk Hooker (1-1, 2.65). The gates will open at 10:30AM and first pitch is slated for 12:05 PM.
