Raleigh Renegades News Release
Raleigh/Durham, NC. The Raleigh/Durham ABA expansion team (2005) today announced the appointment of Phillip Spence as Head Coach of the North Carolina Renegades.
Spence coached the North Carolina Central University men's basketball team for four seasons and led the Eagles to the CIAA Western Division Championship and won the CIAA Coach of the Year Award.
Prior to his stint at NCCU, Spence coached boys' basketball at East Wake High School in Raleigh for 10 seasons and led the Warriors to three consecutive state playoff appearances including a trip to the state 4-A championship and won four Tri-6 conference championships. Spence enjoyed a standout playing career at North Carolina State University and was a key member of the '74 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship team. "Spence will make an outstanding addition to the Renegades team. We're thrilled to have his experience and enthusiasm on board," said Renegades spokesman Erik Joseph. "His personalized touch and background are the kind of assets we were looking for in a head coach and will rely on during the process of launching our team next year."
