Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release

As Rider Nation and the Canadian football community continue to mourn the loss of beloved Roughrider running back George Reed, the Club, with the support of the Reed family, has begun preparations to celebrate a beautiful life lived.

On Saturday, the Roughriders will take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the aptly named Legends Game and will take the time to honour #34 in the presence of members of the Reed family.

Reed will be honoured in a ceremony shortly before kickoff. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 4:50 p.m. to say goodbye to and celebrate our greatest running back of all time.

Reed cared deeply about the community of Saskatchewan, and it was important to him that his charitable work live on long after his passing. With that in mind, the George Reed Foundation and the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation have come together to create the George Reed Legacy Fund. Effective immediately, the Fund - which will support the Special Olympics Saskatchewan and Mother Teresa Middle School - will take on the work of the George Reed Foundation and continue Reed's lasting legacy in the province. ‚ ‚

The Club is proud to host guests from Special Olympics Saskatchewan and Mother Teresa Middle School, two causes very close to Reed's heart, at the game on Saturday.

Fans will also notice many special touches throughout Mosaic Stadium, including special acknowledgements of Reed painted in both end zones and as well as his initials on the 34-yard line on the home side of the field. 'Section 34', where Reed sat for nearly every home game, will be lit green in his honour.

Our players will wear George Reed decals (graphic attached) on their helmets and on their jerseys. Players, coaches and staff will wear 'Remembering 34" shirts and bunnyhugs during pregame, and, in the cases of players who are not on the active roster, on the sidelines during the game.

Many additional moments will take place and memories will be relived on game day and beyond, creating a space for Rider Nation to grieve together, but also to celebrate the great life of George Reed.
