Edmonton Elks News Release
It 'll soon be crunch time for Edmonton Eskimos fans who can purchase Reilly's TD Toss Chips, featuring quarterback Mike Reilly, exclusively at Co-op stores in Edmonton and central Alberta.
Reilly signed fan autographs at the newly opened Co- op food store in Edmonton's Mill Woods neighbourhood to launch the new Co-op/Eskimos Game Day Approved product line. Through the new partnership between the Eskimos and Co-op, a portion of sales from 12 co-branded, specially labeled food and general merchandise is donated to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
"This is a big win for everyone. Not only are football fans and Co-op shoppers buying quality products and showing their team pride, they're also contributing to a healthier future for our children and families because of their purchases of Game Day Approved products, " said Ed Berney, North Central Co-op General Manager, on behalf of Co-ops across central Alberta.
Other products joining Reilly's cheddar and sour cream flavoured potato chip s on the Game Day Approved roster include sunflower seeds, ice bags, chocolate bars, sliced bread, hamburger buns, peanuts in shell, trail mix, reusable party cups, picnic coolers and collector's edition football s.
"This new partnership with Co -op and the Game Day Approved merchandise will help improve our Edmonton Eskimos connection with our rural fans and, in turn, introduce Co- op locally to our community," said Len Rhodes, President and CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos. " The program also supports the Stollery Children's Hospital which is a cause that makes us very proud to be involved."
The Co-op/Eskimos partnership is similar to the one between Co-op and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Co- op/Roughriders partnership raised $95,000 for the Children's Hospit al Foundation of Saskatchewan in the 2013 season. A total of $416,000 has been raised since the partnership began in 2010.
Money raised to support the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation through the Co -op/Eskimos Game Day Approved partnership is in addition to Co- op's $825,000 gift over five years to the Foundation announced last year.
"Co -op receives its strength from the community and, in turn, strengthens those same communities by giving back in really meaningful ways," says Mike House, President and CEO, Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. " We are truly fortunate and grateful to have Co-op and another proud community partner, the Edmonton Eskimos, t eam up in support of children's health in Alberta."
Earlier this week, Co-op announced that it was expanding its partnership with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, featuring Chris Getzlaff and Darian Durant, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, featuring Nick Moore. Tomorrow Co-op will announce tomorrow its new partnership with the Calgary Stampeders and the player to be profiled on its chips and cereal products.
