ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (11-5), four-time ECHL Pacific Division Champions and proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, took a 3-1 series lead in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals with a 5-0 victory over the Allen Americans (9-6) in front of a crowd of 4,657 on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
David Rutherford got Ontario on the board late in the opening frame when he redirected a one-timer from Matt Register through the legs of Riley Gill at 19:30.
Rutherford's tally was a prelude of things to come in the second period, as Tristan King took a saucer pass from Garry Nunn and hammered the puck past Gill at 1:08. Just 21 seconds later, Rutherford tapped the puck ahead to White on a defensive zone face-off, and the winger sped down the left wing before driving to the net and tucking the puck through the pads of Gill at 1:29.
Nunn gave Ontario a four-goal lead on the power play when he one-timed a pass from White in the slot that at 8:46, prompting the Americans to replace Gill with Joel Rumpel.
Rutherford struck again in the third period during a 5-on-3 power play, one-timing a cross-ice feed from White at the left circle past Rumpel at 7:06.
Cannata earned the win with 31 saves for his second shutout of the series; Gill took the loss with seven stops in 28:43 of action; while Rumpel made 12 save in 31:14 of play.
