Alaska Aces News Release

Ontario, Calif. - Alaska goalie Scott Reid finished with 30 saves, several of the spectacular variety, but absorbed his first loss in seven starts against Ontario this season as the Reign rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win 4-2 Saturday night in front of a sell-out crowd of 9,644 at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The Aces still finished 4-1-1 on their two-week road trip and return home needing to win just one of their final four games (all at Sullivan Arena) to clinch at National Conference playoff spot. Alaska (33-27-8) plays host to Brabham Cup champion Idaho Tuesday and Wednesday and Stockton Friday and Saturday. All four games start at 7:15 p.m. and will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game show coverage getting underway at 7 p.m. each night.

For the seventh time in eight games, the Aces scored first Saturday, as Jason Ryznar scored his third goal in as many games on a rebound at 11:54 of the opening period. Jon Rheault tied the contest 13 seconds later, but Nick Mazzolini answered with his 25th of the year with 4:28 left in the frame to give Alaska a 2-1 lead at the break.

Rheault once again deadlocked the score at 2:29 of the second period, beating Reid five-hole on a breakaway, and the game remained tied 2-2 until Geoff Walker punched home a rebound with 12:22 left in regulation. The Aces earned a power play and pulled Reid for the final 1:20 of regulation, creating a six-on-four situation, but a length-of-the-ice empty-netter by Tim Kraus with 6.3 seconds remaining sealed Alaska's fate. Curtis Darling stopped 22 shots to earn his first win since February 28 and deal the Aces their first loss in regulation since Feb. 27. Alaska had gone 7-0-3 over that stretch, including four consecutive road wins heading into Saturday.
