Ontario Reign News Release
VICTORIA, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, was defeated by the Victoria Salmon Kings, 4-0, on Saturday evening at Save-On Foods Memorial Centre before a crowd of 4,020 fans.
Forward Andy Brandt scored the first Victoria goal of the match at 13:17 in the first period during a Salmon Kings power play. Ontario netminder Curtis Darling made the save on Brandt's first shot on goal, but the rebound bounced out to the forward, who skated to the right side of the net and flipped it over Darling. Left wing Chad Painchaud and center Adam Taylor registered the saves on what would be the game-winning goal for Victoria.
Defenseman Brandon Roach fired off a shot at 5:55 in the second period from the top of the left circle that sailed past Darling and into the back of the net. Chad Painchaud and defenseman Jimmy Sharrow picked up the assists on Victoria's second power play goal of the night, and the Salmon Kings took a 2-0 lead.
Left wing Scott Howes scored the third power play goal of the night exactly 14 minutes into the second period. Howes launched the puck through traffic in front of the net and past Darling on his blocker side with assists from Jimmy Sharrow (second assist of the night) and Chad Painchaud (third assist of the night) to give the Salmon Kings a 3-0 lead.
Scott Howes recorded his second goal of the match at 6:44 in the third period. In a rush to the net, Howes fired off a shot that deflected into the net and past Darling off an Ontario defender. Howes' goal marked the end of scoring in the game, and the Salmon Kings claimed their second consecutive win against the Reign with a final score of Victoria 4, Ontario 0.
