
Regular season wraps up, team prepares for 2003 playoffs

Lansing Lugnuts News Release
The 2003 regular season is over with. It was one that saw the Lugnuts get their best winning percentage for a half(.585) and tied for the most wins(38) in the season's first half. That effort got Lansing a wild-card playoff berth and home-field advantage in the quarterfinal round!! Other team marks that fell in the 2003 season included Jason Wylie setting a new franchise record with his 29 saves, Andrew Sisco also setting a new team mark with his 3 complete games and several other players establishing themselves in the top five for many single season categories!!
The Lugnuts will now rest today before opening up the 2003 Midwest League Playoffs tomorrow in South Bend against their division rivals. First pitch for Game 1 will be at 8:00 EST and you can catch all the action with Jim Tocco on WVFN AM 730. The best-of-three quarterfinal series will then shift to Lansing for Game 2 on Thursday, September 4th. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. and it will be a Molson Thirsty Thursday as all fans can grab 22 oz. sodas, 20 oz. beers and four buffalo style chicken wings for just $2.00!! That's right Lugnut fans. The extremely popular promotion is here for any Thursday home playoff game as the Lugnuts make their run towards the 2003 Midwest League title! If necessary, the two teams will play a deciding Game 3 on Friday, September 5th at 7:05 p.m. This game will only be played if the teams split their first two games. Lugnuts say thanks for a great year with the Lansing YMCA's!!! With the Midwest League playoffs underway, the Lugnuts will doing their final workouts of the 2003 season over the next two weeks. With that in mind, the team wanted to say a big THANK YOU to the Lansing YMCA's that accomodated all of the players and coaches during the 2003 season!
But just because the Lugnuts won't be working out in Lansing for a few months, doesn't mean that you can't take advantage of all that the Lansing area YMCA's have to offer. Midwest League Playoffs: The other matchups With the Lugnuts and Silver Hawks about to tangle in the Midwest League quarterfinals, there are three other quarterfinal matchups that will be taking place. In the other Eastern Division matchup, the first-half division champ Fort Wayne will take on Battle Creek. In the Western Division portion of the bracket, the two quarterfinal matchups pit the Kane County Cougars against the Clinton LumberKings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers against the Beloit Snappers. The quarterfinal winners from each division will matchup in the best-of-three league semifinals starting Saturday, September 6th. The best-of-five League Championship Series will start on Tuesday, September 9th with the Eastern Division champion hosting the Western Division champion for Games 1 and 2.
