RECAP: The Bruins dropped all four of their preseason games in the past two weeks, falling to Aberdeen twice by the final score of 3-Â2, and fell to the Magicians in back-to-back nights with finals of 5-Â2 and 3-Â2. This past Friday night's game against the Magicians proved to be filled with fireworks as the Minnesota rivals squared off in a couple of brawls electrifying the Riverside Arena Crowd.
PREVIEW: Despite the Bruins winless record during the exhibition games the general consensus with this Bruins team is they are very fast, skillful, and tough. Expectations around the league are that the Bruins will make the playoffs for the 8th time in the team's 10 years, but of course, it's a long season.
At the NAHL Showcase, the team's first regular season games, the Bruins will play four different opponents in four different games across the span of four days. Up first for the Bruins is the Jamestown Rebels, a team that the Bruins have never played before in their 10 year history. On Thursday, Austin gets set to battle the Janesville Jets, a team that the Bruins are familiar with having played several preseason and regular season games against over the years. For the second straight year, the Bruins will play an expansion team at the NAHL Showcase, and where it was the Maryland Black Bears in 2018-19, 2019-20 brigs the New Mexico Ice Wolves to the Bruins doorstep. While the Ice Wolves and Bruins have never played a game against one another with this being the first year of existence in the NAHL for the former, there is still plenty of familiarity with former Bruins Assistant Coach Keenan Kelly behind the bench for New Mexico as Associate Head Coach. Saturday will be the culmination of the NAHL Showcase with the Bruins taking on the Kenai River Brown Bears.
