CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Reds have named David Bell manager, Chris Bosio pitching coach, Ryan Jackson hitting coach and Jimmy Mattocks athletic trainer the 2009 field staff for the Carolina Mudcats.

Bell, 36, will skipper the Mudcats in his first season as a minor league manager. He retired as a player following the 2006 season after 12 years and 1,403 games in the Major Leagues with the Indians, Cardinals, Mariners, Giants, Phillies and Brewers. He appeared in 3 Division Series and 3 League Championship Series and was a member of San Francisco's 2002 World Series team.

The Bells are one of Major League Baseball's three 3-generation families, along with the Boones and Hairstons. Three members of David's family played for the Reds, including grandfather Gus (1953-61), father Buddy (1985-88) and brother Mike (2000). Buddy Bell was in the organization's player development department in 1998 and 1999, first as minor league field coordinator and then as director of player development.

Bosio, 45, will work in the Reds organization for the second straight season. He spent last year as the pitching coach at Chattanooga after working for Lawrence University in 2006-07, first as its pitching coach and then as interim manager. From 2004-05, Bosio was the assistant pitching coach at the University of Osh Kosh in Wisconsin. He became a coach at the Major League level in 2003, when he served as Lou Piniella's pitching coach in Tampa Bay. For 3 seasons prior to his stint with the Devil Rays, Bosio worked as special assignment pitching coach in the Seattle organization, duties that included time as Triple-A Tacoma's pitching coach.

The 11-year big league veteran tallied a 94-93 lifetime record and a 3.96 ERA in 309 games with Milwaukee and Seattle. In the 7-0 win vs the Red Sox on April 22, 1993 he tossed the second no-hitter in Mariners history.

Jackson, 36, returns for his third season in the organization. He spent the last 2 years as hitting coach at Class A Sarasota. Originally drafted by the Marlins in 1994, Jackson enjoyed an 11-year professional career that included parts of 4 seasons at the Major League level with Florida (1998), Seattle (1999) and Detroit (2001-02).

Mattocks, 26, will work in his fourth professional season, all with the Reds. He was the athletic trainer for Rookie Billings in 2006, for Class A Dayton in 2007 and for Chattanooga last season. He earned a bachelor of science degree in athletic training from Northern Arizona University and a master of science degree in sports medicine from Oregon State University.

The Mudcats open the 2009 Southern League season on Thursday, April 9th against defending league champion Mississippi, with its home opener occurring on Monday, April 20th against Huntsville. The Reds will play an exhibition game at Five County Stadium on Friday, April 3rd against a Futures Team of Cincinnati top-level minor league all-stars at 6:00 PM ET.
