Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The RedHawks defeated the Joliet JackHammers in a 15-inning marathon that lasted five hours and eight minutes in Fargo before 3,139 fans. The RedHawks are now 40-24 while Joliet fell to 32-31 with the loss.

The RedHawks opened up the scoring in the first with runners on first and second and Jimmy Hurst ripping an RBI single up the middle to score Carlo Cota. The JackHammer bats were silent until the fourth inning when they picked up a pair of hits without being able to manufacture any runs. They finally got on the board in the fifth with two runners on base and Doc Brooks doubling out to the left field warning track to send Dennis Blackmon Jr. home.

RedHawks' pitcher, Brett Lawson, allowed two hits in the sixth before Donnie Smith came in to relieve him. Lawson finished allowing just one run on five hits and threw 102 pitches. The JackHammers loaded the bases with two outs, but Smith proceeded to strike out the next two batters retiring the JackHammers without a run. Chad Fillinger started the seventh inning to relieve JackHammers' starter, Aaron Trolia, who also threw 102 pitches, allowing one run on eight hits.

The score stayed knotted at one until the top of the 14th inning when Nick Prosise hit a sacrifice fly to right field giving the JackHammers a 2-1 lead. Steve Mortimer responded for the RedHawks with a double out to the right center warning track that plated Alan Rick and tied the score at two a piece. The RedHawks managed to hold off the JackHammers in the top of the 15th. Jimmy Hurst singled through the right side and Rick followed by crushing a two-run homer over the right center wall to give the RedHawks the 4-2 victory. The RedHawks will head to Kansas City for a three-game series starting Tuesday.
