
RedHawks Take 7-3 Win

JOLIET-The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (45-34) got a 1st inning home run by CF Nic Jackson (1-4) to take a 3-0 lead they would never relinquish en route to a 7-3 win over the Joliet JackHammers (29-51) before 4,126 fans in the opener of a 3-game series at Silver Cross Field.
In the 1st inning, RF Mike Coles (6-6) led off the game with a double and SS Zach Penprase (1-4) was hit by a pitch. Jackson hit a three-run home run over the right field wall.
The JackHammers scored two runs in the 2nd inning to cut the RedHawks lead down to one run. RF Joe Gaetti (2-3) hit a one-out double and scored on a single by LF Wally Backman, Jr. (1-3) 2B Rob Dahlberg (1-4) hit a single to move Backman, Jr. to third base. He scored on a sacrifice fly by DH Tim Alberts (1-4) to center field to make it 3-2.
Fargo-Moorhead scored three runs in the 8th inning to increase their lead to 6-2. Coles hit a two-out single and moved to second base on a single by Penprase. A past ball allowed Coles to move to third base. Jackson walked to load the bases.
1B Ruben Salazar (3-5) hit a two-run single to score both Coles and Penprase. An RBI single by DH Randall Simon (2-5) brought home Jackson to make it 6-2.
The JackHammers came within three runs at 6-3 on a solo home run by Gaetti in the 8th inning.
Fargo-Moorhead plated the final run of the game on an RBI single by C Jeff Stevens (1-5) in the 9th inning. He drove in LF Justin Justice (0-3), who worked a one-out walk and advanced to second base on a balk issued to RHP Trenton Lee.
RHP Rory Shortell (3-6) started the game for the JackHammers and pitched six innings. He allowed three runs on 10 hits to suffer the loss. RHP Matt Mossey (3-1) picked up the win for Fargo-Moorhead. He allowed two runs on four hits in six innings pitched.
The JackHammers and RedHawks continue their series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The JackHammers present Rally the King of Bling. Come out to the ballpark to see some of his crazy antics. The JackHammers are also holding the Kiwanis Peanut Giveaway, passing out bags of peanuts to fans as they leave the game. The RedHawks send LHP Jeff Icenogle (2-1, 6.12) to the hill against RHP Jason Novak (2-3, 5.44) for the JackHammers.
