RedHawks pound RailCats, 11-6

Behind four home runs, the RedHawks defeated the RailCats 11-6 at Newman Outdoor Field. The win brings them two games over .500 at 24-22 and drops Gary's record to 25-21.

Scoreless until the third, Ruben Salazar put two on the board for the RedHawks with his two-run homer off the scoreboard in left field. Alan Rick followed suit immediately after with a solo shot over the center field wall, his tenth of the season. Zach Penprase hit a sacrifice fly right field that sent Jeff Eure home and put the RedHawks up 4-0. The RailCats' Billy Phillips, allowed four runs on four hits in the third inning alone.

Salazar connected again in the fourth banking an RBI double off the left center wall before Garret Holleran came in to relieve Phillips. Phillips allowed seven runs on ten hits in three innings. The RedHawks scored three more in the fourth to give them an 8-0 lead.

John McCarthy finally got his team on the board in the fifth with an RBI single to right field. The RailCats kept chipping away at their deficit with a two-run homer knocked over right center by Cristian Guerrero in the sixth. David Morgan came in to relieve Garry Bakker after 6.1 innings. In his 99 pitches, Bakker threw seven strikeouts and allowed three runs on three hits.

The RedHawks sealed the deal in the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back home runs. Steve Mortimer nailed a two-run homer to left field and Kole Zimmerman hit a solo shot to make the score 11-3. The RailCats tried to fight back but were only able to manufacture three runs to make the final 11-6.

The RedHawks look for the series sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Fargo. Todd George (0-0, 18.00) will pitch for the RedHawks and the RailCats will counter with Kai Tuomi (2-1, 4.34)
