Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
The RedHawks (33-23) extended their win streak to seven games in front of 3,780 fans at Newman Outdoor Field with their 6-4 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (30-26).
Colin Roberson produced the first runs of the game for the Goldeyes as he knocked a two-run homer over the right field wall in the fourth inning. It was Tydus Meadows who scored on a single by Chad Ehrnsberger in the fifth to put the Goldeyes up 3-0.
Joe Mathis singled in the bottom of the sixth to put Carlo Cota on third with one out and Jimmy Hurst up to bat. Hurst singled to left field and scored Cota, putting up a run for the home team. Jeff Eure knotted the score by cracking a two-run triple to the left center warning track. David Castillo sent Eure home with a single just over Goldeye shortstop, Max Poulin, which gave the RedHawks their first lead of the game.
The RedHawks continued to roll in the seventh scoring two runs off Brian Beuning, who currently leads the Northern League in pitching with a 1.65 ERA. Scott Koerber came in to relieve Garry Bakker who pitched seven innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. A pair of singles and a sacrifice fly by Jason Sherrer scored Chad Ehrnsberger to minimize the Goldeyes' deficit and bring them within two. With two outs in the ninth, Kevin West doubled to score Demetrius Heath to close the RedHawks lead to one. Ehrnsberger then flied out to right field and the Goldeyes fell short, losing 6-5.
Game two of the weekend series will be Saturday at 6 p.m. in Fargo with RH Todd George (2-0, 6.43) throwing for the RedHawks and Ace Walker (4-3, 4.96) taking the mound for the Goldeyes.
