RedHawks earn 2-1 win

The Tucson Padres carried a lead into the ninth inning Wednesday but two late Oklahoma City runs gave the RedHawks a 2-1 win. The Padres scored an unearned run in the third inning when Anthony Rizzo hit a two-out RBI single to score Eric Patterson, who had reached on a dropped fly ball by left fielder Jake Goebbert. It was the only run in the game until the ninth, when the RedHawks scored twice on three hits.

J.R. Towles hit a bloop single to left against Brad Brach to start the ninth and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brach got Oswaldo Navarro to ground out but then Goebbert hit an RBI single off the glove of Rizzo, who jumped to try and make the catch. Goebbert later scored on a pinch-hit, two-out single by Robinson Cancel to give the RedHawks their first lead. The Padres lone ninth inning baserunner, Kyle Phillips, was left on base.

Tucson starter Samuel Deduno pitched six shutout innings for the second straight start, and now has a team-best 3.40 ERA. Luis Perdomo and Pat Neshek pitched scoreless innings each in relief. The Padres lost three of four to the RedHawks (Astros affiliate) and split the eight game homestand with New Orleans and Oklahoma City.
