
RedHawks and Goldeyes to Renew Playoff Rivalry

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will face the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the First Round of the 2009 Northern League Playoffs beginning Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. Game 2 will also be in Fargo on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m., with the best-of-5 series shifting to Winnipeg for the weekend.
The series between the RedHawks and the Goldeyes will mark the ninth time in 14 years the two clubs have meet in the post-season. The RedHawks hold a 5-3 series advantage with wins in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2006. Winnipeg won series in 1997, 1999 and 2001.
All tickets for RedHawks home playoff games are $5.00 in advance and $7.00 day-of-game. PIEPKORN WINS BATTING TITLE, PLAYER OF THE MONTH
FARGO, N.D. -- Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn won the 2009 Northern League Batting Title last night, and today has been named Rawlings Northern League Player of the Month for August, the Northern League office announced.
Piepkorn, who hit .339 this season, is the third RedHawks player in the last four seasons to lead Northern League in hitting. He joins CF Joe Mathis, who hit .359 in 2006, and 1B Ruben Salazar, who his .378 last season, as Batting Champions.
Piepkorn batted .384 (43-for-112) with seven doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 25 RBI, and 27 runs scored in the month. He collected at least one hit in 22 of 28 games raising his average 20 points over the final month of the season.
Piepkorn's month was highlighted by a four-game stretch where he went 10-for-17 (.588) with four home runs (August 24th - 27th). His month also included 15 multi-hit games and hitting streaks of both seven and 10 games. He finished the regular season leading the league in batting (.339) and hits (123 - tied). He also ranked second in total bases (204) and slugging percentage (.562) and third in home runs (19 - tied) and RBI (73). Piepkorn received Player of the Week honors for the Week ending August 30th.
The 6-3, 215-pounder, is a six-year veteran and former Cincinnati Reds farmhand. He was signed by the Reds in 2004 as a non-drafted free agent out of North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND). Players also receiving Player of the Month votes were Juan Diaz (.339, 11 HR, 30 RBI) of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Mike Coles (.359, 14 2B, 34 Runs) of the RedHawks.
Piepkorn joins 3B Yurendell DeCaster (June) and CF Nic Jackson (July) as RedHawks Player of the Month Winners.
PENPRASE SETS NORTHERN LEAGUE RUNS RECORD

FARGO, N.D. - Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks SS Zach Penprase set a new Northern League record Monday night as he scored his 100th run of the season. Penprase scored the run as part of the RedHawks ninth inning rally in an 8-6 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
Penprase broke the record of 99 runs set in 2005 by Cory Harris of the Lincoln Saltdogs. Penprase also let the Northern league in stolen bases with 45, which set a new RedHawks team record.
Several RedHawks ranked high in statistical categories:
* CF Nic Jackson was first in RBI (97), was third in doubles (26) and extra-base hits (43), fourth in hits (119) and runs scored (76) and fifth in stolen bases (26). * RF Mike Coles was first in doubles (28), was second in batting (.328), third in hits (121), runs (77) and on-base percentage (.409) and fourth in stolen bases (27). * 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn was first in batting (.339), tied for first in hits (123), was second in slugging percentage (.562) and third in home runs (19) and RBIs (73).
* SS Zach Penprase finished first in runs scored (100) and stolen bases (45) and tied for fourth in on-base percentage (.397) * LF Justin Justice was second in triples (8) and fourth in slugging percentage (.524).
* LHP Broc Coffman tied first in shutouts (2), and was second in victories (9) and complete games (2) * LHP Scott Fogelson was fifth in ERA (3.66). * RHP Nick Fellman finished tenth in ERA (4.58). * RHP T.J. Stanton was fifth in saves (9).
* RHP Garry Bakker was first in walks (57).
