Redfish Will Have Fireworks

Charlotte County Redfish News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL-First, there was too little rain. Then, there was too much. The Charlotte County Redfish have run into some bad luck this baseball season when it comes to fireworks.

The Redfish began their inaugural season with a game on May 18, and immediately ran into firework trouble.

"We were planning a big fireworks show to follow our first game," said Redfish General Manager Steven Tricarico. "However, due to lack of rain all over Florida, there was a state-wide ban on fireworks at that time, and we had to cancel our plans."

Since then, Florida has gotten the necessary rain to make it safe to have fireworks after the baseball games. The Redfish had their debut fireworks show on July 3, the day before Independence Day.

"We were so glad we went to the game the night before the Fourth of July," said Redfish fan Sheila Skates. "The fireworks show lasted at least fifteen minutes, and my kids are still talking about how great it was."

Despite the praise from fans, the success of the first fireworks show was short-lived. During the sixth inning of the Redfish game on the Fourth of July, colossal rain caused the umpires to pause the game and the tarp to be pulled over the playing field.

After the downpour stopped, it was clear that the game could not be continued, and arrangements were made to go ahead with the Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza. However, before the fireworks show could commence, the bottom opened up in the sky again, and the rain came down once more.

"We were all obviously disappointed that we couldn't have our Fourth of July Fireworks, but we plan on making up for that with our fireworks show after the game on Friday, July 13," Tricarico said. "We know it's not the same as July 4th, but it's still going to be great."

The Redfish only have to play five innings for a game to be official, so the game that was played on the Fourth of July will not have to be rescheduled. Since the game was on a Wednesday, fans are in luck and will receive admission to another game.

"Every Wednesday is Guaranteed Win Wednesday at the Redfish games," Tricarico said. "Our policy on Wednesdays is that if the Redfish don't win, everyone in attendance receives a ticket to another game."

The Redfish were losing when the game was called on the Fourth of July, so anyone who was at the game can bring his or her ticket stub back to another game and the Redfish ticket office will honor it.

The next Redfish game is Thursday, July 12, and it is Thirsty Thursday with dollar drafts all night. Thursday is also Negro League Awareness Night, and the team will be wearing official Negro League jerseys.

Friday at the stadium is Freaky Friday with an on-field costume contest and fireworks following the game presented by First Financial. Saturday is Margaritaville Night presented by Adams Homes with a beach ball giveaway and a live band before and after the game.
