Charlotte County Redfish News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- The first day of spring is always something special. The smell of fresh cut grass, the click-clack of cleats running down a fly ball and the crack of the bat hitting a ball over the center field wall are present around Charlotte County Stadium. The new team in town, the Redfish, began spring training on May 8th, 2007 and will continue through May 17th.

The Redfish roster entering spring training is filled with great prospects from all over the United States and the world. Some of these players have had professional experience whether playing in other independent leagues or playing in affiliated minor league baseball. No matter their previous experience, all of these players are looking to take this opportunity and make the most out of playing professional ball and dreaming that one-day they'll be playing on a major league field.

"It is any baseball players dream to play professionally and we're helping to give players the chance," stated David Greenwald, Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations. "There is great talent here and players, coaches, and front office are all getting ready for that first pitch Opening Day."

Redfish players will be taking batting practice, fielding practice, bullpen work and everything that their manager, Jackie Hernandez, feels is necessary to get them into game form. The Redfish will also be taking part in two scrimmages against their Florida rivals, the Bradenton Juice. The scrimmages will be held this Saturday, May 12th at 3pm and Monday, May 14th, at 3pm.

"This gives our players and fans to get a first glimpse of what they'll be seeing on Opening Night," commented Steven Tricarico, General Manager. "Our roster is really taking shape and with every passing day, Opening Day gets ever closer."

Hernandez and his coaches will trim down the roster to 23 players. The Opening Night roster could include one of Charlotte County's own, Mike Hudzina. Only time will tell, as the countdown to Opening Day is getting closer.

The Redfish are only 10 days from their Opening Day May 18th with the South Georgia Peanuts. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05pm with plenty of exciting Opening Day Ceremonies! Our "Name the Mascot" Contest has been narrowed down to 5 final name choices. Cast your vote for the name you like the best. For more information check out www.redfishbaseball.com.
