Redding Fires a Gem in 6-1 Win Over Storm

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - JonMichael Redding turned in six shut-out innings and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes snapped a two-game skid with a 6-1 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm.

The win for the Quakes snaps the Storm's three-game winning streak and brings Lake Elsinore's lead over Rancho to just one game in the Second Half South Division standings.

Redding had an up-and-down first inning but settled in and tossed a gem. After striking out the first two hitters, he then walked the next two, before getting Jonathan Galvez to ground back to the mound to get out of what turned out to be his biggest jam of the night.

The Quakes' offense gave Redding plenty of run support in the second, scoring five times against Storm starter Andrew Werner.

Werner allowed consecutive hits to Tony Delmonico, Austin Gallagher and Rafael Ynoa to open the inning, but rebounded to strike out Preston Mattingly for the first out of the inning. It appeared that Werner may be on his way to getting out of the inning with minimal damage, until he hit Ramon Jean with an 0-2 pitch, forcing in a run to put the Quakes on the board at 1-0. Nick Buss followed with a two-run double to make it 3-0. A Jake Lemmerman RBI groundout and a run-scoring hit from J.T. Wise capped the inning though, putting the Quakes up 5-0.

Rancho got their final run in the sixth, as Ynoa reached via a hit and eventually scored on a throwing error, making it a 6-0 advantage.

Redding (8-5) worked through the sixth, allowing just two base hits and a total of three walks, striking out ten hitters on the night.

The Quakes' bullpen got a scoreless inning from Andy Suiter in the seventh and a scoreless eighth from Robert Romero to keep the shutout intact.

Romero struggled with his command in the ninth though, walking the first two hitters he faced. Josh Walter followed out of the bullpen and walked the first two hitters he faced as well, pushing across Lake Elsinore's only run at 6-1. Walter recovered to retire the final three hitters to preserve the win.

With the win, the Quakes (19-13, 57-45) pull to within one game of first place Lake Elsinore in the South Division's second half. On Wednesday night, Arismendy Ozoria (4-5) will take on Storm lefty Mike Watt (4-7) at 7:05pm, in the second game of the four-game set.

On Wednesday, August 3rd, the Quakes return to The Epicenter to open a four-game series against Modesto. August 3rd will be another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark.
