Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Memphis Redbirds (54-32) blasted three home runs en route to a 7-4 win over the Round Rock Express (39-48) on Thursday night at Dell Diamond, handing the E-Train their first home series sweep of the season.
Express starter LHP Jimmy Reyes (2-5, 4.63) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits in five innings. The lefty walked three and struck out five. Memphis reliever RHP Tyler Bray (1-0, 11.12) picked up the win despite giving up three runs, only two of which were earned, on four hits in two innings.
Memphis wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard. LF Nick Martini worked a leadoff single before CF Harrison Bader blasted a two-out homer to left field, putting the Redbirds up 2-0 in the first inning.
The E-Train responded in the second as 1B Ronald Guzman singled before moving to third on a Jason Martinson groundout. Fresh off a two-month stay on the disabled list, 2B Doug Bernier grounded an RBI single to left field that cut the deficit in half.
However, Memphis unloaded for five runs in the fourth inning. C Carson Kelly led off the frame with a single, then 3B Patrick Wisdom lined a two-run homer to left field. After DH Todd Cunningham worked a walk, Martini collected a two-out single. SS Aledmys Diaz then notched his team's second home run of the inning, a three-run shot that extended the visitors' lead to 7-1.
Round Rock cut into the deficit in the fifth. CF Jared Hoying and C Brett Nicholas teamed up for consecutive singles before 3B Will Middlebrooks worked his way on base via an error by 1B Rangel Ravelo. With the bases loaded, LF Travis Snider sent a sacrifice fly to deep right field, allowing Hoying to tag and score from third. In the next at-bat, DH Ryan Rua sent a two-run double into left field, trimming the gap to 7-4. However, the E-Train offense managed just one baserunner in the final four innings to seal their fate.
Round Rock now turns their attention to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. The visitors plan to send RHP Angel Ventura (3-1, 3.68) to the mound to face an Express pitcher yet to be announced. First pitch at Dell Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
