Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - On Thursday, April 26, the Redbirds will host Social Media Night where Twitter users will have a chance to be followed by the Memphis Redbirds Twitter handle (@memphisredbirds).

The first 500 fans through the gates that use Twitter can write down their Twitter username, allowing the Redbirds to follow them. Prior to the game, a Twinterview will be held with one of the Memphis Redbirds players. Twitter handles from each player will also be included on their headshots on the Redbirds' new video board.

Fans will be encouraged to take a photo from where they sit at the ballpark and share it on Facebook. Adding their seat location to the picture caption will give them a chance to win a social media themed prize during the game. One fan will also receive a prize pack that includes a bird watching book, a team-signed hashtag and a box of figurines containing 140 characters.

"We are always looking for new ways to engage with our fans and we think this is a unique opportunity." explained Director of Marketing Adam Goldberg, "What do Twitter users want? More followers; and the Redbirds will make that happen on April 26th. Not only will fans have a chance to be followed by the Redbirds Twitter account, but we also have the chance to follow some of our best fans that come through the gates. It will also be a great way to open another direct line of communication with our customers."

The Redbirds utilize their Twitter account to share exclusive quotes, pictures and updates. Fan participation is created through trivia questions and chances to win different Memphis Redbirds prizes while reaching over 7,800 followers with each tweet. The Redbirds reserve the right to "unfollow" any user.

In addition to Twitter, the team also maintains a presence on social media networks such as Facebook (facebook.com/MemphisRedbirds), Pinterest (pinterest.com/memphisredbirds), YouTube (youtube.com/memphisredbirds), the Chirp Chatter Blog, an iPhone/Android app and a weekly e-mail newsletter.
