Tucson Padres News Release

Bryan Anderson's sixth hit of Thursday's game pushed Memphis ahead of the Tucson Padres in the eleventh inning and Adam Reifer retired the Padres in the bottom of the eleventh to give the Redbirds a 7-6 win. Erik Hamren was the losing pitcher after allowing his first run in eight Triple-A games this season.

The Padres fell behind 6-3 before scoring three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game. Anthony Contreras hit a pinch-hit single for the Padres in the rally to bring home the tying run. With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, Jedd Gyorko hit a high drive to deep left field. Memphis left fielder Mark Hamilton timed his jump perfectly at the wall, reaching his glove over the fence to pull back what would have been a game-winning home run. The Padres left a runner on base in the bottom of the ninth and bottom of the eleventh in the loss.

Anderson was 6-for-6 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Redbirds. He fell one hit short of the Pacific Coast League record for hits in a game; a mark shared by four players. The most recent PCL seven-hit game was by Neifi Perez in 1996 for Colorado Springs. The Padres took three of the four games from the Redbirds to win their first series of the year and finished the homestand with a 5-3 record.

Next Game: Friday, 7:05 pm at Tacoma - Tucson LHP Tom Layne (0-4, 7.43) vs. Tacoma LHP Anthony Vasquez (5-2, 4.44). Game coverage begins at 6:50 pm on Tejano 1600 AM.
