Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release
North Texas travelled to CHI Memorial Stadium Tuesday night on a five-game unbeaten run looking to end the Red Wolves' personal unbeaten record at home for the 2021 campaign. The match started in a slog for both sides under the beautiful East Ridge sunshine, as neither side seemed to be able to create any big chances in attack. The Red Wolves finally found a chance at goal in the 18th minute, when a beautiful ball from Ronaldo Pineda put Rafa through on goal, but the North Texas keeper was equal to the shot. 12 minutes later, after a spell that saw the Red Wolves in control, North Texas found their breakthrough.
Blaine Ferri played a ball into the box that was met by the head of Eddie Munjoma, his powerful effort fired past Trilk to make it 1-0. The Red Wolves would look to answer back in the last 15 minutes, but often found themselves frustrated by a solid North Texas backline. In a must win match for the Red Wolves, Obleda and his squad found themselves behind at the break and in search of answers.
The second half was a slog for the Red Wolves after coming out strong in the first 15 minutes. Manager Jimmy Obleda looked to his bench in the last half hour, calling on Jonathan Esparza, Juan Galindrez, and Rey Ortiz to change the game. Intensity picked up in the latter stages and the Red Wolves received a huge boost with 6 minutes of time added on for various substitutions and injuries. In the face of adversity from an officiating standpoint, the Red Wolves continued to battle and were ultimately rewarded in the dying embers. Juan Galindrez got on the end of a shot off the post to slam past the North Texas keeper and make it 1-1 in the dying moments. A signature last minute goal for the Red Wolves, and their second one of the season against North Texas, who have now dropped 4 points after leading against the Red Wolves in the 90th minute this campaign.
The result was a vital point for the Red Wolves, who made history under the floodlights at CHI Memorial Tuesday night. Obleda's side became the first team in USL League One history to record an 11-game unbeaten streak.
The work is not done for the Red Wolves, who welcome league leading Union Omaha to the fortress Saturday night. The match kicks off Saturday, August 21, 2021 at CHI Memorial Stadium, with fireworks following shortly after the full time whistle.
