Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Chattanooga falls to One Knoxville on the road in a match that could very well determine the Players Shield winner.
One Knoxville SC headed a ball home off a cross to open the scoring two minutes in. There were just two total shots with one on target in the game up until the 41st minute when Chattanooga nearly tied things up.
The Red Wolves moved the ball out of the back and from right to left eventually getting the ball in One Knoxville's half. Jordan Ayimbila played a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Yanis Lelin down the left-hand side. Lelin picked out his man and cut a ball back into Matthew Bentley whose effort went wide.
One Knoxville doubled its lead in stoppage time to head into the break, up 2-0.
The breakthrough for Chattanooga nearly came in the 67th minute. Omar Gomez whipped a dangerous ball into the box from the right side that was headed by a Knoxville player into Omar Hernandez who took it off his chest and blasted the ball on frame.
In need of two goals, the Red Wolves continued to play with urgency creating yet another opportunity in the 68th minute. Lelin found the ball down the right-hand side and cut in, dribbling past several Knoxville defenders. He was able to get a shot off through traffic at the top of the box forcing a tough save out from the opposition.
The Red Wolves had another great opportunity to get on the board just five minutes later. A ball was crossed in that found Hernandez one on one with the keeper with his effort being saved. The ball rebounded out to teammate Aaron Lombardi. Lombardi had his shot attempt blocked by a Knoxville player to keep Knoxville ahead by two.
Despite 23 shot attempts, Chattanooga would fall 2-0 to One Knoxville SC.
Chattanooga and One Knoxville are level on points at 48 with the same number of matches being played. The two sides split matches this season, but One Knoxville leads on goal differential.
