Red Wings Suffer First Spring Setback with 2-1 Loss Saturday

Highly-touted prospect Oswaldo Arcia makes Wings spring debut after being optioned to Rochester earlier in the day

The Rochester Red Wings suffered their first loss of the spring Saturday afternoon, falling to the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore), 2-1, at Lee County Sports Complex in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The Wings mustered only three hits on the afternoon as they fell to 3-1 in spring training action.

Centerfielder Antoan Richardson, who was in the Baltimore system last year and played nine games with the Tides, delivered the lone RBI for the Wings with a base hit.

Rochester played 16 different position players including highly-touted outfield prospect, Oswaldo Arcia, who was just optioned to the Red Wings on Saturday morning after playing five games in Twins camp.

Arcia, who went 0-for-2 Saturday afternoon, missed the first few weeks of spring training with a rib muscle strain. The 21-year-old had a breakout 2012 season hitting a combined .320 with 17 home runs and 98 RBI between Ft. Myers (A) and New Britain (AA).

Red Wings pitching was solid for a third consecutive day as five pitchers combined to allow just five hits.

RHP Kyle Davies started for the Wings allowing a run in just one inning of work. Davies, who pitched in over 150 Major League games with Atlanta and Kansas City from 2005-11 did not play professionally in 2012.

LHP Jason Lane, LHP Edgar Ibarra and RHP Daniel Turpen all tossed a pair of scoreless innings. RHP Bobby Lanigan, who won six games in relief for the Wings in 2012, surrendered an unearned run.

Infielder James Beresford scored the lone run for the Red Wings. Beresford was reassigned to minor league camp on Thursday after playing for Team Australia in the World Baseball Classic.

The Red Wings play an intersquad game against the New Britain Rock Cats, the Twins Double-A affiliate, on Sunday afternoon before hosting the Pawtucket Red Sox Monday.
