CARSON, Calif. - Marta scored a pair of goals as the Los Angeles Sol struck early and often Saturday, scorching the Chicago Red Stars, 4-0, before 4,653 fans at the Home Depot Center.

The three-time reigning FIFA Player of the Year, Marta did her damage in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Aya Miyama played the Brazilian star in behind the Chicago backline. From there Marta drove a left-footed shot to the far post to give the Sol a 3-0 lead. She added her eighth goal of the season later in the half, tying teammate Camille Abily for the Women's Professional Soccer scoring lead.

Los Angeles (10-1-4) tied a WPS team scoring record, shared by the Red Stars, with four goals in the game. The Sol scored a pair of quick goals early, from Shannon Boxx in the 15th minute and Abily in the 20th. Two goals in five minutes is the quickest Chicago goalkeeper Caroline Jönsson has allowed back-to-back goals in a match this season.

Chicago's best chance of the game came in the 33rd minute when Cristiane played a ball into the box for Lindsay Tarpley, who put her shot in the net but was flagged for offside.

The Red Stars (2-6-5) were shutout for the fourth consecutive match and have not scored since the second half of a June 7 match at FC Gold Pride, a WPS-record period of 403 minutes. Chicago is winless in its last nine matches.

With the loss, Chicago remains in seventh place in the WPS standings but just three points out of fourth place, pending the rest of the weekend's action. Los Angeles extends its lead in the league points standings.
