BRIDGEVIEW, IL (October 3, 2008) - The Chicago Red Stars have acquired the WPS playing rights to Spanish international Laura Del Rio, General Manager Marcia McDermott announced today.

Del Rio, whose 13 goals and 11 assists helped F.C. Indiana to reach the 2008 W-League Championship game, led the W-League in assists and was second in total points last year.

"Laura is an exciting, pacy, and verstaile forward with fantastic 1 v 1 ability," said Head Coach Emma Hayes. "She is a talent that will thrive at the next level."

The Red Stars selected Laura Del Rio with their second international discovery pick. Last week, the club exercised their first pick by identifying England's Alex Scott. The other international players whose WPS playing rights were secured by Chicago include Brazilian forward Cristiane, Australian midfielder Heather Garriock, English forward Karen Carney, and Swedish goalkeeper Caroline Jonsson.

"The selection of Laura Del Rio is only the first step in the process," explained General Manager Marcia McDermott. "Emma has had a chance to watch her play on a regular basis with FC Indiana, our affiliate and one of the finest W League teams playing. Her selection reflects Emma's emphasis on building a balanced, creative and attacking team."

The Chicago Red Stars kick off their inaugural Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) season in April at Toyota Park. Season tickets are now on sale. Call 1-866-WPS-2009 or log on to www.chicagoredstars.com to your seats.
