Red-and-White fall in SuperLiga opener, face Chicago on Tuesday

Chivas USA fell by a 2-1 score to Tigres UANL of the Mexican First Division in the opening match of SuperLiga 2009 for both teams. A goal in the 82nd minute from Jesus Dueñas gave Tigres the win, which tied the Mexican club for first place in Group A with the Chicago Fire, who beat San Luis 1-0 also on Saturday night.

- Chivas USA midfielder Michael Lahoud scored his first professional goal to tie the game at one the 55th minute for the Red-and-White, finishing at the far post off a ball played by midfielder Bojan Stepanovic. Tigres had opened the scoring in minute 11 when Armando Pulido scored on a bicycle kick from 15 yards.

- The Red-and-White were forced to play the final 23 minutes of the match down a man after forward Eduardo Lillingston received his second yellow card for a foul in midfield. Lillingston will miss Chivas USA's next SuperLiga match, this Tuesday at the Chicago Fire.

- Chivas USA has two matches left in the group stage of SuperLiga 2009, with the first coming this Tuesday in Chicago against the Fire, and the final match of the stage against Mexico's San Luis next Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center.
