Louisville City FC News Release

Louisville, KY (August 25, 2015) -- An historic night at Louisville Slugger Field was made even more special with the record crowd of 9,434 fans saw the home side come away with a 3-1 victory of Major League Soccer's Orlando City SC.

Lou City threatened early with some great chances to draw first blood. Captain Matthew Fondy challenged the Orlando backline all night and got his first real chance coming in the in the 34th minute. Fondy would find the ball and get off a shot to the left of the keeper, only to be corralled then saved by Orlando's Earl Edwards.

Just a minute later, Fondy would weave through three defenders to get off a shot on a tough angle. The ball rifled past Edwards, finding the back of the net and sent the crowd into a frenzy.

That would be all the scoring the first half would see, but the second half would tell a different story. Many new faces entered the field for the final 45 minutes, including Greg Ranjitsingh who made his Slugger Field debut.

Orlando would have a great chance to level things in the 47th minute brushing by multiple Lou City defenders only to find his shot go wide of the post and out for a goal kick.

Despite the visitors pushing for an equalizer, Juan Guzman would double the Louisville lead in the 50th minute. The midfielder would pressure a bad handle by Orlando's backline, get a touch on the ball, and fire a shot for Lou City's second goal on the night.

Orlando would come right back in the 66th minute with a goal of their own by Danny Mwanga, who was able to cross through two defenders and get off a solid shot beating Ranjitsingh to the left, bringing the score to 2-1.

Orlando would come close to equalizing in the 71st minute when a strong cross by the Lions would be tipped out by Ranjitsingh only to have another shot come right back into the keeper's hands then cleared away to end the threat.

Louisville's final goal of the night would come from Charlie Adams in the 78th minute. Louisville benefited from a foul and a quick restart. Charlie Adams attempted to maneuver around a defender, only to see Edwards meet him near the six-yard-box. The two nearly collided, forcing Edwards to spill the ball and allowing Adams to deliver the finishing blow.

As the final whistle blew, Louisville City would defeat the Orlando 3-1.

Fans could tell this would be a special night as the crowd began to fill the stands, Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher, former USL President Tim Holt, Brek Shea, and dozens of other MLS talents made it a star-studded affair.

After an incredible showing by the team in their 3-1 victory over Orlando, this was both a record setting attendance night and monumental victory for the club.
