Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Whataburger Field's Ziegfest Music Festival is getting richer... and will continue to do so.

Officials from Ryan Sanders Entertainment and L&F Distributing announced Wednesday that Reckless Kelly has joined headliner Robert Earl Keen on the seven-hour, five-act bill at the home of the Corpus Christi Hooks on Saturday, October 22.

Ziegfest ticket on-sale details and an additional Texas blockbuster artist will be announced next Wednesday in advance of the Thursday, July 7 on-sale.

"We are delighted to have Reckless Kelly lined up for the October installment of Ziegfest," Ryan-Sanders Entertainment Executive Vice President J.J. Gottsch said. "The Braun brothers and their mates put on an awesome show. They built their reputation as a Texas Country band, but have a fan base extending well beyond our borders."

"We're thrilled to be a part of Ziegfest this year," lead singer Willy Braun said. "It's an amazing event that always has a stellar line-up and is sure to be a great time! We're looking forward to seeing all of our band buddies at Whataburger Field and knocking back a few cold ones!"

Willy, (lead singer/guitar), brother Cody (vocals/fiddle/mandolin/harmonica), David Abeyta (lead guitar/vocals), Jimmy McFeeley (bass guitar) and Jay Nazz (drums) comprise Reckless Kelly. The band is named for 19th century Australian bank robber Ned Kelly and originated in the Pacific Northwest.

For the Brauns, music has always been a family affair. Father Muzzie Braun and the Boys played western swing regionally as well as on the Grand Ole Opry stage and The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.

Younger brothers Micky and Gary Braun are frontmen of their own band, Micky & The Motorcars.

Reckless Kelly migrated from Bend, Oregon, to Austin in 1997. Self-released debut album Millican (1998) sold over 20,000 units. The Austin Chronicle named RK "Best Roots Rock Band" three years running. After an acoustic album, Live at Stubbs, and another studio album on their own label, The Day, they released Under the Table and Above the Sun on Sugar Hill in 2003. Wicked Twisted Road (2005) and Reckless Kelly Was Here (2006) were other Sugar Hill releases before Yep Roc's Bulletproof (2008) and Somewhere in Time (2010), a tribute to Pinto Bennett.

"Ragged as the Road" from Bulletproof reached No. 1 on both the Americana and Texas charts. "American Blood" netted Willy Braun honorable mention for the 2009 International Songwriter's Award.

Since 2009, Reckless Kelly's Celebrity Softball Jam at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock has raised over $100,000 to benefit youth sports facility restoration and renovation in Central Texas, including The Miracle Leagues at Town & Country, North Austin and San Antonio. In addition to bleachers, concession stands and storage areas, Miracle League fields require special construction materials for developmentally disabled baseball and softball players as they compete on completely flat, rubberized surfaces.

"We've been partners with Reckless Kelly since the beginning of the softball jam," Hooks and Ryan Sanders Baseball CEO Reid Ryan said. "Each year the band and all their friends graciously give of their time and talents for two great youth-related charities - Little League Baseball and the Miracle League. Giving back to the community has been a staple of Ryan Sanders Baseball, and Reckless Kelly shares those same values." The band's single, "Ragged as the Road," from its 2008 album, BULLETPROOF Ziegfest Music Festivals are in their ninth year across Texas and Whataburger Field hosted a Ziegfest event for the first time last October.

Local media partners for Ziegfest 2011 are the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and K-99.
