Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lookouts swept a doubleheader over the Jackson Generals Tuesday with victories of 6-2 and 3-2 at The Ballpark at Jackson. The pair of Generals losses also eliminated Jackson from contention for the 2015 First-Half North Division Championship. Chattanooga remains in first place in the division, holding a three-game lead over the Tennessee Smokies.

Chattanooga topped Jackson with a 6-2 wire-to-wire win in Tuesday's opener. Jose Berrios nearly tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits in 6.1 innings pitched while earning his league-best seventh victory. Byron Buxton provided an early cushion for Berrios by scoring on an Adam Brett Walker II sacrifice fly in the first inning and adding another run during a Max Kepler single in the third.

The Generals were denied in the fourth inning during a potential game-tying rally. Back-to-back two-out doubles put Jackson on the scoreboard as Jordy Lara extended the inning and scored during D.J. Peterson's extra-base hit. On a 2-0 count, Dan Paolini ripped a line drive down the left field line that was ruled foul. Three pitches later, Paolini flew out to end the inning and leave the Generals down by one, 2-1.

Walker carried Chattanooga to a 6-1 lead through the top of the seventh. In the fifth inning, he cleared the left field wall with a two-run blast - his league-high 16th home run this season - that bounced over the clubhouse roof. He also recorded an RBI double in the seventh and later scored on a triple from Kepler.

Jackson cut the difference to 6-2 before Cole Johnson closed the contest. The Generals opened the bottom of the seventh with three straight singles, including an RBI hit from Paolini. Johnson came in after a Berrios strikeout and retired the final two batters to finish Chattanooga's win. Berrios (7-3) claimed the win over Jake Zokan (1-3) while Johnson earned his second save of the season.

In the nightcap, the Lookouts grabbed a 3-2 triumph on the strength of a three-run rally in the fourth inning. Mike Gonzales broke the scoreless tie with a two-run double against Matt Anderson. After a strikeout and a single, Buxton singled to drive in Gonzales.

Paolini pushed Jackson (22-35) within a run in the sixth inning, but Chattanooga (34-23) held on for the win. Dario Pizzano led off the frame with a walk. Three batters later, Paolini lifted a two-run clout to left field. His second home run of the year was Jackson's only offense in a 3-2 loss to close the evening.

Madison Boer (2-2) was credited with the win after a scoreless fourth inning. Anderson dropped to 1-4 with the loss. J.T. Chargois held Jackson scoreless in the seventh for his first save. The contest also began with a pair of three-inning shutout starts from Jackson's Andrew Kittredge and Chattanooga's Tim Shibuya.

Wednesday's finale between the Generals and the Lookouts is scheduled at 7:05 p.m. CT at The Ballpark at Jackson. Southpaw Misael Siverio (1-5, 4.88) will start for Jackson against Chattanooga right-hander Greg Peavey (4-2, 5.61). Fans can listen to the contest on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3), starting at 6:50 p.m. CT with the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee National Guard.
