ROSEMONT - Jessie Scroggins delivered a two-RBI single in the sixth inning and the Bandits claimed a 4-3 victory in a back-and-forth battle against the league-leading USSSA Pride on Saturday at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
The former Baylor standout, whom the Bandits selected 15th overall in the 2018 NPF Draft, barreled up a two-strike deliver from Pride southpaw Paige Parker and sent it up the middle to put the Bandits ahead late in the ballgame. The rookie right fielder accounted for two of the Bandits' five hits on the night.
Parker suffered the loss and fell to 2-2 overall.
The Bandits mustered a pair of comebacks in the game - one thanks to Scroggins' late-game heroics and the other via a solo shot from rookie first baseman Courtney Gano to lead off the fourth.
First-year shortstop DJ Sanders also launched a solo shot, her sixth of the season. The second-inning blast marked her fifth home run in the past seven games (all wins).
Bandits right-hander Ally Carda collected her fifth win of the campaign after she tossed two innings in relief. She surrendered one run and struck out one.
Veteran right-hander Lacey Waldrop picked up her career-high third save and recorded the final out of the game with the potential tying run aboard.
The Bandits and Pride will conclude their three-game series to finish the 2018 regular season before the two teams meet again for a best-of-five Championship Series from Aug. 16-20 at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
First pitch in the series finale is set for 6:05 p.m. Sunday and the game will be broadcast via Eleven Sports.
