Miami FC News Release

Edmonton, Alberta (October 21, 2017) -  The Miami FC, on a cold Canadian night, defeated FC Edmonton 2-0 to stay alive in the race for the Fall Season Championship.

It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance by the Miami FC in the first half, seeing great interplay and some errant passes throughout.

The Orange and Blue wasted no time getting on the board, finding the back of the net in just the 10th minute.

Captain Michael Lahoud played Kwadwo Poku into space at the top of the box. Poku pushed ahead and threaded a through ball down the right side to a streaking Jaime Chavez. Chávez would play the ball across the face of goal to Stéfano Pinho for an easy finish.

The two sides would settle in after the early goal, trading blows in the midfield.

The 39th minute nearly saw Edmonton equalize. A back pass would end up at the feet of the Eddies' Daryl Fordyce in front of goal, but he sent the point blank shot sailing over the crossbar.

The Miami FC dominated the second half, but for a late push by Edmonton at the end of the match.

Disaster nearly struck Edmonton in the 62nd minute as goalkeeper Tyson Farago mishandled a catch in his area. The ball fell to the feet of Poku, but the Ghanaian fired the shot too high.

The Orange and Blue would score an insurance goal in the 64th minute. Amazing organization and pressure from the Miami FC frontline forced a bad back pass by FC Edmonton. Michael Lahoud was in perfect position to intercept the pass in the Edmonton area before finding Dylan Mares all alone. Mares measured his shot and put the ball past two Eddies and into the back of the net.

The final 15 minutes saw Edmonton go on an all-out attack, pinning the Orange and Blue in its own half. Daniel Vega and the rest of the squad stood strong and absorbed every attack and held on to secure the 2-0 victory.

The win moves Miami to 6-0-0 all-time against Edmonton, outscoring the Eddies 9-0 in those victories.

The Miami FC returns Riccardo Silva Stadium to close out the 2017 regular season against FC Edmotnon next Saturday, October 28. Kickoff from Riccardo Silva Stadium is set for 7:30 PM.

The Miami FC will begin postseason play at home on Sunday, November 5th at 5 PM. Tickets for The Championship Semifinal are on sale now at  MiamiFC.com/Tickets. For groups of 10 or more, call 844-MIAMIFC.
