Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS - The Corpus Christi IceRays (8-7-1-2) were halted by penalties in the third period during their 3-1 loss to the Lone Star Brahmas (15-3-1-0) on Friday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
The IceRays held the early momentum in the first period though the Brahmas would open the scoring early on. At 8:14, Brahmas forward Austin O'Rourke slotted a shot from the top of the slot over the netminder's glove hand to earn a 1-0 lead. The IceRays pressured back and tied the game up, 1-1, at 13:58 thanks to a takeaway and a backhanded shot coming across the crease from forward Cole Gammer for his first goal of the season. In the final minutes of the first period at 18:41, Brahmas forward Hunter Stanley opened up space in the left circle and found forward Carson Kelley in the low slot for a tip-in and a 2-1 lead.
Possession in the second period went back and forth, keeping the score level heading into the third period. However, penalties incurred by the IceRays led to the Brahmas doubling their lead. At 12:20, Brahmas forward Drake Glover beat the netminder back door while on the power play to take a 3-1 lead. Late penalties against the IceRays halted their attempt at a comeback, sinking them by that final scoreline.
Brahmas goaltender Alec Calvaruso (7-1-0) earned the win, stopping 27 of 28 shots, while IceRays netminder TomáÅ=A1 Vomá=C4=8Dka (4-7-1) picked up the loss, halting 27 of 30 shots. The IceRays pick up their four-game stretch against the Brahmas on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. from the NYTEX Sports Centre. Coverage begins at 7:15 p.m. on SportsRadio Corpus Christi (KSIX 1230AM) and Hockey TV.
