St. John's IceCaps News Release

ROCHESTER, NY. - Stefan Matteau potted the game-winning tally in the fourth round of a shootout as the St. John's IceCaps edged the Rochester Americans 4-3 at the Blue Cross Arena on Friday night.

The Americans kicked off the scoring early with back-to-back tallies in the first, from Alex Nylander and Justin Bailey.

Mark Barberio split Rochester's lead in half with a tally late in the first frame. Nikita Scherbak and Jacob de la Rose picked up the helpers. Scherbak is now on a three-game point streak (2G, 2A, 4P).

Rochester's Casey Nelson stretched Rochester's lead to two with a goal in the second, but Markus Eisenschmid (unassisted) rallied with a marker halfway through the frame to bring St. John's back within one.

Jeremy Gregoire scored the game-tying goal with just 2:16 left in the third period, with Ryan Johnston and Julien Brouillette assisting the tally. Stefan Matteau appeared to win it for the IceCaps in the final seconds of the period, but after reviewing the play - the goal was called off and the game headed to overtime.

Both Rochester and St. John's were scoreless in the extra frame, forcing it to a shootout. Amerks' Nick Baptiste and IceCaps' Daniel Audette both capitalized in the first round, while Nylander, Scherbak, Cold Schneider and Michael McCarron were denied in the second and third rounds. Matteau fittingly scored the game-winning tally for the IceCaps.

Charlie Lindgren stopped 24-of-27 shots during play, and three-of-four in the shootout to log another win.

The IceCaps are in Toronto tomorrow night (6:30 PM NT), and again on Sunday afternoon (4:30PM NT) taking on the Marlies. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com, KIXX Country 930AM and www.ahllive.com.
