
Real Salt Lake Announces 2011 RSL Youth Camps Schedule

SANDY, Utah (Thursday, June 2, 2011) - Real Salt Lake is proud to announce the return of its Real Salt Lake Youth Camps series, which is set to kick off its third year beginning next week (June 6-10) with stops in the Southern Utah cities of St. George and Cedar City. The RSL Youth Camps program is a series of weeklong camps focused on developing technical and tactical soccer skills in young athletes. With the program's demand increasing, this year's RSL Youth Camps will expand to host 17 camps in sixteen cities across Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada, including new locations in Pinedale, Wyo.; Preston and Pocatello, Idaho; and St. George, Cedar City, Saratoga Springs, and Taylorsville, Utah.
The camps are designed for players of all skill levels, boys and girls ages 3-18. In addition to the two main "sub-camps" held at every location last year - Mini-Kickers (ages 4-8) and Youth Skills (9-18) - all stops will now also include the new Pre-Kickers Camp (ages 3-5), while select locations will also host sub-camps for Youth Strikers (10-18), Youth Goalkeepers (10-18), and High School (ages 14-18) groups. Campers will be put into a challenging environment that demands good training habits and encourages the development of the soccer player in a fun and rewarding experience.

Along with participation in the RSL Youth Camps, attendees will receive additional benefits, including a free RSL Youth Camps T-shirt, a ticket voucher to a 2011 RSL home game, and an invite to Camper Appreciation Day to be held during a RSL contest at Rio Tinto Stadium (match/date TBA). In addition, a $10 "sibling discount" will be available for families that have more than one child participating and a $10 per child "team discount" will be available for each player that attends as part of a team of 10 or more (applications for all team members must be received together).
Back for his third year as RSL Director of Youth Camps is Rob Karas, who has earned several national licenses and diplomas, including the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "A" License, the NSCAA International Premier Diploma, the USSF National Goalkeeper License, the USSF National Youth License, and the NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. When combining such accreditations with Karas' 10 years of professional soccer experience and numerous trips to clubs around the globe to gleam best practices regarding youth development - including visits to Barcelona FC, AC Milan, Ceivo Verona, Atalanta, AJAX, and PSV - it can be assured that the RSL Youth Camps will provide a well-rounded soccer curriculum for all children involved.
Following are descriptions of the six different "sub-camps" being offered at this summer's RSL Youth Camps, allowing players of all ages and abilities to get the most out of the experience. Real Pre-Kickers Camp (Ages 3-5) $75 9:00-10:00 a.m The Real Pre-Kickers Camp is a new camp being offered for 2011. The Real Pre-Kickers Camp is designed to introduce soccer to this age group. Each pre-kicker will receive a soccer ball, camp T-shirt, a RSL game ticket, and snacks will be provided daily. This camp will work on basic motor skills with and without the ball, introduction to soccer rules, and FUN!!! Each of our Real Camp staffers will bring high energy so that your child will have a positive and fun experience during the week.
Real Mini-Kickers Camp (Ages 4-8) $90 9:00-10:30 a.m. The goal of the Real Mini Kickers Camp is to improve closed and open motor skill movements. The staff will implement energy, movement, and imagination so that your child will not only learn the basics of soccer, but enjoy the game as well. You will enjoy watching your child compete, laugh and learn to love the world's game.
Real Youth Skills Camp (Ages 9-18) $115 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The Real Youth Skills Camps have several curriculums specifically designed by age, ability, and playing experience. The Real Youth staff feels that structured curriculums will ensure that, in each session, players will develop based on age, skill level, and gender. The modern training techniques will utilize the latest training methods and equipment, focusing on speed/agility training, technical coordination, 1-v-1 moves, defending and shooting, among others.
Real Youth Strikers Camp (Ages 10-18) $150 1:00-3:00 p.m. The Real Youth Striker Camp is one-of-a-kind. The RSL Staff uses modern day training methods and equipment, including the use of Pro Soccer Trainer Ball Machines, that allow players to get hundreds to thousands of repetitions shooting on goal. Areas of focus in the Strikers camp include 1-v-1 dominating an opponent; taking penalty kicks and free kicks; and techniques for instep drives, side volleys, banana kicks and chip shots.
Real Youth Goalkeepers Camp (Ages 10-18) $150 1:00-3:00 p.m. The Real Youth Goalkeeper Camp uses many of the modern training methods that are used throughout the United States and Europe. Each player is challenged to refine his or her technique, develop a better sense for the goalkeeper's role in the game, and learn how to push themselves to reach higher levels of performance each time they step on the field. Each player will have individual video analysis on different aspects of his or her game.
Real High School Camp (Ages 14-18) $150 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Real High School Camp for both boys and girls ages 14-18 returns for a second year in 2011. This camp, designed to provide top-level training for high school aged players, will be offered only at the following locations: Green River, Brigham City, and Elko. The camp will features training methods that focus on cover speed and agility with the ball, 1-v-1 moves to beat a player, advanced shooting, and skill training under pressure, among others.
In addition to the sub-camps being offered at the 17 RSL Youth Camp stops, the following two supplemental camps below for teams and current/incoming college freshman will also be available throughout the summer months.
Real Team Camp (Ages 14-18) $1200 (team) 6:00-8:00 p.m. Real Salt Lake offers professional training for teams as well as individuals. Have a high-level coach of your choice come out to your team's practice site for a total of 10 hours. Training sessions can be two hours a day on Monday- Friday, or you can choose to have a coach come out for five, two-hour training sessions over the course of 2-3 weeks. The RSL Team Camps are offered year round and each participant receives a RSL T-Shirt.
Real Prep College Academy (Ages 18+) $300 7:00-9:00 p.m. This program is designed to help college players to be prepared and ready for the upcoming season and to create awareness for himself with Real Salt Lake. The Real Salt Lake Summer Prep Academy is for current and incoming collegiate freshman players. The professional-level training environment includes participation in 12 practice sessions (June 21, 23, 28, 30 & July 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28) and a minimum of four exhibition games.
